About Us

About Us

The KW Interventional Pulmonology program was created by Dr. Chernish in 2009 and has grown steadily since. In 2018, Dr. Burkett became the director of the program and has continued to grow the program while expanding the services offered to patients.

Our mission is to expedite the care of cancer patients and patients with suspected malignancy to ensure the best possible outcomes for the patients of south western Ontario.

How your donations can help

$500

Allows us to safely drain the pleural fluid from a cancer patient who requires blood thinners without stopping their blood thinners significantly reducing their risk of having a new or extending blood clot.

$12,000

Would be enough to purchase a cryoprobe which would be used to debulk patients’ lung tumors minimally invasively, with no side-effects or pain, significantly improving shortness of breath and potentially extending the lives of patients with thoracic cancers for the lifetime of the device.

$80,000

Would facilitate the purchase of EBUS equipment at Grand River Hospital which would significantly speed up the time to diagnosis and starting treatment for thoracic cancer patients in the region.

$200,000

Would allow us to purchase a YAG laser device which could be used to extend the lives and dramatically improve symptoms in patients with central airway involvement by their tumor.
